August 15th
(Martyrdom
for Christ)
We
are in our right mind
11: For we which live are alway
delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made
manifest in our mortal flesh. 12: So then death worketh in us, but life in you.
13: We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed,
and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; 14: Knowing
that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and
shall present us with you. 15: For all things are for your sakes, that the
abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of
God. 16: For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet
the inward man is renewed day by day. 17: For our light affliction, which is
but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of
glory; 18: While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things
which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things
which are not seen are eternal.
Previously Paul had said that, we
are troubled by things that are all around us but we are not upset by them. We
are perplexed but we have not lost all hope. We are persecuted but God has not
forsaken us. We are depressed but we are not destroyed by anything. We are
carrying around in our bodies the death of the Lord Jesus, so that the life of
Jesus Christ might be revealed in our bodies. Now Paul continues saying that we
who serve the Lord are living in Christ are always delivered to death for
Jesus’ sake so that the life of the Lord Jesus might be revealed in our bodies.
Death is working in us but life is working in you. We have the same spirit of
faith. It is written - l believe and therefore l have spoken. We believe and
therefore we speak. God who raised up the Lord Jesus from the dead will also
raise us up from the dead and you will be raised with us. All we do is for you,
so that the overflowing of the grace of God might bring thanksgiving from many
and lead to the glory of God. Because of this we do not faint but although our
bodies might be destroyed yet our spirits are renewed every day. This
affliction which is very light and which lasts for just a moment of time works
to our benefit a far more and exceeding and eternal weight of glory. We do not
look at the things which are seen but at the things which are not seen. Because
the things which we see all around us are temporary. But the things which we do
not see now are eternal.
