Hi everyone.
It is such a honour to post these Bible readings.
This Bible reading programme has been a great blessing to me. Recently l have been thinking, you know, God did not give us a book of daily devotional thoughts, designed to comfort and encourage, with a thought for the day, a hymn and a poem. Nor did he give us an encylopedia so that we could look things up. God did not give us a catalogue of answers to difficult questions. He did not give us some Bible studies for a home group or even a systematic theology. What God has provided is a very large book - which contains 66 separate books by 40 authors. Yes, there are answers to questions and there is the most profound theology but it is spread out right through Gods book. There is no one section to find out about the Deity of Christ or the plan of salvation. These things are spread out throughout the whole Bible. And it is our joy to read the Bible in the format that he has provided. The Bible is a book that is mostly ignored by most christians. Most christians keep to their favourite parts. There are large sections of the book that have almost never been read or taught in churches. I'm thinking of Ezekiel and Jeremiah. Yet God has put then in his book and their message is just as forceful and challenging today as it was to its original readers. Not all of the Bible is about being a christian. David was no Christian He was never part of the Christian church and Noah was never a Jew! So the Bible is challenging. Its Gods word to the whole of mankind - in the whole of time. It is humbling to learn that while it all belongs to us but its not all about us. So how can Christians get a grip on the whole of the bible? Well by reading all of it. Progressively - day by day. There will be difficuly parts in the Bible. Parts that are hard to understand and hard to accept but thats the point. The Lord said my thoughts are not your thoughts and my ways are not your ways, and you thought that l was like you, in this you are greatly mistaken. So how does God think? And what does God thing about our world? To find out we need to come into radical contact with his word the Bible. We need to allow the whole councel of God to touch our minds and character. I have divided the whole Bible up into Bible readings that will cover 365 days of the year - Morning and Evening readings. When the Ethiopia eunuch met Philip, Philip said to him. Do you understand what you are reading? And he replied How can l unless someone should guide me. And he asked Philip to come up into the chariot and sit with him. This is the reason why l have included some notes at the end of the Bible readings. They are not the final word on scripture - God forbid. I am still learning but God has been teaching me and its my hope to pass on some of what God has been showing me. I dont always get it right - God is still teaching me.
