October 28th Hebrews 3

Superior to Moses

1: Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; 2: Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house. 3: For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house. 4: For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God. 5: And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after; 6: But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.

The writer to the Hebrews builds his thinking point by point. Here he says, because of what l have previously said, l want you - holy brethren (Israelites). You who are designated to be partakers of the heavenly calling, (The Messianic Kingdom) to consider ‘The Anointed One’ ‘The High Priest of our confession’ – Christ Jesus. He was faithful to the one who called him – just as Moses was, who was faithful in his house. Christ has much more glory than that which Moses had, because the person who builds the house is more honourable than the house. Every house is built by someone, but the one who built everything is God. Moses was a faithful servant in the house but Christ is the Son and Heir of the house and we (Hebrews) will belong to his house if we hang on believing and rejoicing in the hope of the Kingdom of heaven to the end.

  • What point is the writer making in this passage?
  • What is the writer asking the Hebrews to consider?
  • In what way was Christ superior to Moses?
